Cassie Beasley Author Visit

img_1231What a treat!  3rd, 4th and 5th grade Frost students were introduced to Cassie Beasley, a 2016 Bluebonnet Award nominee!  She talked about what authors do (read a lot, write a lot, edit, edit and edit some more!). She shared her favorite books (Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by Kelly Jones, A long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck, and Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson). She read a passage from her book Circus Mirandus (see below video) and she led the students in creating their own crazy story.  Thanks to L.E.A.F. (Lamar Educational Awards Foundation) for covering Ms. Beasley’s travel expenses!  And thanks to Mr. Avinger for creating the amazing banner!

Maker Monday Techno Jungle Creature

3rd graders had a great time in Maker Monday learning how to design circuits using the littleBits we were awarded through a L.E.A.F grant.  Students created jungle characters with craft supplies and added littleBits circuit pieces to give their creature a super power.  Then they wrote a story about their Techno Jungle Creature using its super powers to save the day.  Check out their Maker Monday journey in this video:
